The Flying Elephant Company has a proud connection to education for young people. Our debut production, Girl Inside, toured South Australian schools in 2020 and Artistic Director, Benji Riggs, has over a decade of experience as an Arts Educator.

The company took a break in 2026 but we've developed a rich 2027 program that seeks to provide opportunities for schools to engage with the arts. This includes incursions, OSHC performances, and a suite of educational resources. Program details will continue being released throughout the rest of 2026.

Book Nooks

Incursion, Term 4 2026

Arts Curriculum Resources Included

Themes: Mental Health, Loss, Connection, Friendship, Family

The Flying Elephant Company is proud to present the award winning, critically acclaimed Book Nooks as 60 minute format suitable for school incursions.

On Christmas Eve, 11-year-old Jack Barker moves into his grandpa's old house. At first, Jack refuses to join the celebrations, believing that doing so would be leaving his grandpa behind. However, one night Jack finds himself in a magical village of Grunkels – the miniature makers of Christmas sweets – who have made their homes within the forgotten encyclopedias and history books that sit atop his grandpa’s bookcases. The Grunkels must help Jack find his joy before Christmas Morning, otherwise they may never see the Nell shine again. As he grows close to the whimsical creatures, Jack rediscovers his joy just in time to make it home for Christmas.

Book Nooks explores the impact that loss can have on our connection to family and the change that new friendships can make. In this story, Jack goes through the stages of loss, including depression, anger, denial, and acceptance. This exploration is supported by the use of music and lyrics that help young audiences engage with the story and themes.

Giant Leap

Incursion, Term 1 2027

Arts Curriculum Resources Included

Themes: Mental Health, Anxiety, Confidence, Self-Worth, Friendship

After attending Giant Leap, Bailee, a Year 1 student aged just six years old, shared: "It’s showing everyone that you’ve always got one person in your life to give you confidence." Bailee’s words capture the very essence of Giant Leap – a story that strengthens young hearts and helps children find courage in themselves and the people who care for them.

Set in a universe where medieval kingdoms float through space and dragons roam the skies, Giant Leap is a heart-stirring space-fantasy musical for children aged 5–12. Giant Leap invites young people to find strength in unlikely places, and to discover who they are, one giant leap at a time.

Hidden away in a joyless village, Annabella has always struggled with anxiety, serving the village’s every cruel whim. Knowing there’s more out there for her daughter, Annabella’s mother comforts her with stories of the great beyond. Even with her mother's love, Annabella never truly feels accepted by the people around her… until she meets Jupiter, a mystical dragon who invites her on a journey across the stars to find his lost son. Unbeknownst to her, the adventure ahead will not only take her across the universe, but deep within herself. Giant Leap is a space-fantasy musical about finding happiness in the person you are, despite the faults you may find within yourself. When we first meet Annabella, she feels empty inside, yet somehow full of fear. By the end of her journey, she realises she is enough – just as she is.
