A young boy. A mythical creature. A journey that changes everything.

When Ewing sets out on his first hunting expedition, he becomes lost in the snow-covered woods. Cold, alone, and unsure which way to turn, he encounters a golden fox — a creature thought only to exist in the whispers of legend. But this fox is no ordinary guide. What begins as a search for the way home becomes a deeper journey into a world where owls speak, shadows stalk, and the heart must learn to trust what it cannot yet understand.

Set against an original orchestral score and brought to life through poetic visuals, The Boy with the Golden Fox is a heart-stirring adventure about unlikely friendships, hope, and the wild places within us. As Ewing ventures deeper into the forest, he is pursued by the Wommolly and guided by a cast of magical creatures who challenge and protect him in unexpected ways. What he finds along the way will reshape his idea of strength — and of home.

Since premiering in 2022, The Boy with the Golden Fox has grown into a cherished audience favourite. Its blend of gentle theatricality and emotional depth has drawn praise from families and critics alike. Broadway World called it “a tale with a genealogy stretching back to the dawn of storytelling,” while TASA described it as “an enchanting and mysterious piece of theatre for young audiences” with “universal themes and the feeling of a well-wrought European enchanted forest tale.”

After sell-out seasons in Adelaide and a warmly received 2024 Adelaide Fringe run, the show now embarks on its first regional tour. A special one-day performance will take place in Port Augusta on Sunday, June 1 at 2:00pm at the Lea Memorial Theatre, supported by Port Augusta City Council, the Benevolent Society, and Performing Arts of Port Augusta (PAPA).

This performance features Nira as Ewing and Adam Rolling as the Golden Fox, with supporting cast Naomi Crosby, Brooke Stevens, and Bailey Sprecak, under the direction of Benji Riggs.

Free tickets are available now from the Port Augusta Public Library — with many already claimed and more flying out the door each day.
